Irigoni
Vin de liqueur
Liqueur Wine
Irigoni (from ear-gonos, meaning “daughter of Spring”) was the mythical daughter of Icarius, an Athenian who welcomed the god Dionysus. As a reward, Dionysus taught him the secrets of the vine and wine-making. In Tyrnavos, Dionysus left his “marks”, still visible today through the traditional “Bourani” festival. The grape variety that became deeply linked with the region is Moschato Tyrnavou, a variety with many wine expressions, the most eminent of which is its aged sweet wine.
Distinctive Characteristics:
Irigoni wine is history and myth combined. The Moschato grapes from which it originated came from old vines that no longer exist today, cultivated and vinified by people of the generation before the previous one. This wine has been reverently kept and aged for decades in large oak casks in the cellars of the Agricultural Cooperative Winery & Distillery of Tyrnavos, as a precious part of its winemaking heritage.
Vinification:
White vinification with fermentation halted at the desired Bé. Maturation / Aging in old French oak barrels for many decades.
Alcohol Content: 18% Vol
